Centaurides are the rarely mentioned female centaurs. Philostratus the Elder gave a beautiful description of them, as did Ovid. They are more common in art than in mythology.
Hylonome, one of the only Centaurides known by name, was present at the battle between the Centaurs and the Lapiths, who were led by Pirithous and Theseus. Her husband, the Centaur known Cyllarus, was brought down by an arrow. In her grief, Hylonome used that same arrow to end her own life, for she did not want to live without him.
